If you haven’t yet, you should check out this Sunday’s homily by Fr. Robert Pecotte at www.cuf.org. (Click “Sunday Homily” on the left.) It packs a punch.

Here’s just a snippet:

American cultural values are not of Jesus Christ! America is no longer the land of the free and the home of the brave. It has become the land of greed and the home of the depraved! . . . .

Even the average “good” American Catholic/Christian is caught up in a self-centered, comfort-seeking lifestyle. Our lives are filled with restaurants, new cars, high-definition TVs, iPods (notice that they are i-Pods, not us- or we-Pods . . .), vacation homes, travel, and constant entertainment.

Sound alarmist? Maybe it is. But someone had better sound the alarm. As Fr. Pecotte points out, “The situation is grave, and our eternal salvation is at stake.”

Check it out. And then take a few minutes to ask yourself who you’re serving.

  1. Even so, Americans give more charity than any other country in the world.

Beware of the media–it can lie.

And who cares what i-pods are called?
