Time for a Healthcare Update

American Papist has been reporting healthcare news as it develops. His excellent coverage includes statements from the USCCB and many individual bishops. A few posts of note:

Please contact your representatives and respectfully demand that they oppose this anti-life healthcare bill. Let them know that you’re Catholic, that you care about protecting life, and that this bill doesn’t do that. If they vote for this bill, will you vote for them again? Let them know. If they’re already voting “no,” thank them and encourage them not to yield under pressure.

And, as always, pray.

A good reminder from Fr. Z:

As I was listening to the news tonight, I tuned into hear Fox News White House correspondent Major Barrett in front of the White House.

As he spoke there was a Cardinal singing unmistakably, brazenly, unselfconsciously, in the background.

Matthew 6:

25    “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, [think about health care bills] what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
26    Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
27    And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life?
[...]
33    But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.
34    “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day’s own trouble be sufficient for the day.

Yes, the things of this world are important. We must, in charity, try to discern the right thing to do for our neighbor and ourselves.

But think also – mostly – of your eternal reward.
