Calling all Bishops

The Fall General Assembly of the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops is now in session.

The USCCB’s website includes links to live streaming of the meeting as well as constant updates via twitter.

The agenda for November 14-16 includes the welcoming Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano as the new Apostolic Nuncio to the U.S., voting on the inclusion of Optional Memorial of Bl. John Paul II in the U.S. liturgical calendar, Bishop William Lori’s address on the state of Religious Liberty, and a presentation by Cardinal Donald Wuerl on Anglicanorum Coetibus.

Archbishop Timothy Dolan’s opening address as president of the USCCB emphasized the need to acknowledge the weaknesses of the Church’s members, but not to forget that the Church was founded by Christ Himself. He quoted Bl. John Paul II, reiterating to his fellow bishops that “Love for Jesus and His Church must be the passion of our lives!”

For more on the Bishop’s General Assembly, a USA Today article underlines the USCCB’s focus on religious liberty and, as always, Rocco Palmo offers hot-off-the-press coverage at Whispers in the Loggia.
