In recent years, it seems that Catholic families have been reclaiming All Saints’ Day on November 1st–not only for the great feast it is in itself, but as an opportunity to provide wholesome, spiritually edifying entertainment for our children as an alternative to pagan Halloween celebrations. And so many communities have been sponsoring All Saints’ Days parties and other such events that allow our kids to dress up as our spiritual heroes.
As an aside, I think we tend to see an inordinate amount of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha outfits, not because she’s a great saint (and she is), but because a Disney Pocahontas outfit seems to do the trick.
All this points to the challenge Catholic parents have to help their children come up with saint costumes at the last minute.
Therefore, I just wanted to recommend to our readers a wonderful new company called Our Coats of Many Colors. This home-based company has an ever-increasing array of saint costumes that are perfect for All Saints’ Day parties or even just for dressing up. Owner Debbie Fuhrman suggests placing orders this summer to beat the rush of orders that inevitably come in September and October. Click here for more information.
In addition, Coats of Many Colors is expanding its offerings to include Lord of the Rings costumes as well as modest dresses for girls. My daughters got to visit their operation last week and were most impressed. Check it out!
