Abstinence and Red Carpets

With all the bad press that abstinence and chastity receive, it’s nice to hear some good news. This time it comes in the form of two new U.S. studies that “provide encouraging findings about abstinence education.” Check it out.

And from Poland, a creative way to spotlight religious life: The Catholic University of Lublin hosted a “fashion show” of religious orders. Members of different religious communities literally walked the red carpet, showing off their order’s habit. What a great way to piggyback on young people’s attraction to showiness, glitz, and glamor–and yet provide a distinctly counter-cultural message.

The event’s organizer, Fr. Andrzej Batorski, said, “The name ‘fashion show’ is provocative. We want to show that we live simply, and that even if we sometimes dress in an old-fashioned way, our clothes are a reflection of our lifestyle.”

Pretty cool. I’d like to see something like that here in the U.S.
