A Word to the Verbose

My “guardian angel” left this quote from St. Francis de Sales on my desk this morning:

”The worst defect in talking is talking too much. Hence, in speech be brief and virtuous, brief and gentle, brief and simple, brief and charitable, brief and amiable.”

Okay, I get the message. (Don’t have to hit me over the head!) I’ll stop right writing now!

  1. I forwarded this post to my friend Curtis Martin, whom I mentioned in yesterday’s post regarding his great work with the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS). I did so mindful of a quote from a little boy after one of Curtis’ talks 12 years ago: “My Martin, you’re a great talker. For TWO HOURS you talked!”

Curtis sent me back this quote from FOCUS’ national conference:

“A priest at our conference comes out after three hours of Confessions and turns to some women on my staff.

“‘It is so awesome…you all get to give birth…But I get to FORGIVE SINS!!!’”
